Tutorial Walkthrough

The Chatsubo tutorial is a guided introduction to the game's core mechanics and cyberpunk atmosphere. This walkthrough explains what you'll learn and provides tips for completing it successfully.

Starting the Tutorial

From anywhere in the game, type:

tutorial

This will transport you to the tutorial area. The tutorial remembers your progress, so you can leave and return anytime without losing your place.

Pro tip: Use the hint command in tutorial rooms if you get stuck. It provides progressive hints (levels 1-3) to help you figure things out without spoiling the experience.

What the Tutorial Teaches

The tutorial consists of multiple interconnected rooms, each focusing on a different aspect of gameplay:

1. Introduction

What you'll learn: - Welcome to the world and setting - Basic orientation to the tutorial system - How to use the hint command

Tips: - Take your time reading the room descriptions - Get a feel for the cyberpunk atmosphere and writing style - Remember: you can always use hint for help

2. Movement and Navigation

What you'll learn: - Using the look command to examine your surroundings - Moving between rooms with directions (north, south, east, west, up, down) - Reading room descriptions and identifying exits

Tips: - Try look at specific objects mentioned in the room description - Pay attention to exit names—some are special (not just compass directions) - Movement commands can be abbreviated (n for north, s for south, etc.)

3. Communication

What you'll learn: - Speaking out loud with say - Roleplaying actions with emote (or /me) - The difference between in-character (IC) and out-of-character (OOC) communication

Tips: - Practice descriptive emotes—show, don't tell! - Example: Instead of emote is nervous, try emote shifts uncomfortably, eyes darting around the room - Get comfortable with emotes—they're key to good roleplay

4. Inventory Management

What you'll learn: - Checking your inventory with inventory (or i) - Picking up items with loot - Dropping items with drop - Examining items with examine

Tips: - You'll likely practice picking up and dropping objects in this room - Items in your inventory can usually be examined for more details - Some items can be worn or used—experiment!

5. Interaction with NPCs

What you'll learn: - Talking to NPCs with the talk command - How NPCs can offer quests, information, or services - Basic quest mechanics

Tips: - NPCs are more than scenery—many have useful information or quests - Some NPCs will respond to specific keywords - The Tutorial Guide NPC is there to help—don't hesitate to talk to them

6. Basic Combat

What you'll learn: - Initiating combat with attack - Combat mechanics (turn-based system) - Health and damage - Fleeing from combat - What happens if you die (spoiler: you respawn safely!)

Tips: - Don't worry about dying in the tutorial—it's a safe environment - Pay attention to your health during combat - You can flee if things go badly

7. Getting Help

What you'll learn: - Using the help command to access in-game documentation - How to search for specific help topics - Using the newbie channel to ask questions - Where to find staff and support (staff and helpdesk commands)

Tips: - The help system is comprehensive—bookmark topics you'll need later - The newbie channel is monitored by helpful players and staff - Never be afraid to ask questions!

8. Exiting the Tutorial

What you'll learn: - How to complete and exit the tutorial - Where you'll go next (Chatsubo Bar) - What to do after finishing

Tips: - Make sure you've practiced all the commands before exiting - You can always return to the tutorial with the tutorial command - The Chatsubo Bar (where you'll end up) is your new home base
